The Tridonic EM converterLED BASIC 203 MH/LiFePO4 50V converts a suitable mains-powered LED luminaire for emergency operation.

During normal mains operation, the luminaire’s standard LED driver operates the connected LED module. If the mains supply fails, the Tridonic emergency unit switches the designated LED module to battery-powered emergency operation.

The unit uses three-pole changeover technology, providing two-pole LED-module changeover together with delayed power switching for the normal LED driver. It is compatible with most dimmable and non-dimmable constant-current LED drivers, subject to the limits and compatibility requirements stated by Tridonic.

An important advantage of the 89800576 is its support for both NiMH and LiFePO4 batteries. The emergency driver automatically detects the connected battery technology and adjusts its charging behaviour accordingly.

With a compatible NiMH battery, the driver supplies a typical emergency output of 2.5W. A compatible LiFePO4 battery increases the typical emergency output to 3.2W.

The emergency duration is selected using the supplied duration link. The driver is supplied with the link fitted for three-hour operation. Removing the link before connecting the battery and mains supply configures the unit for one-hour operation.

This is a BASIC-series manual-test unit. It does not include DALI communication or automatic scheduled functional and duration testing.

INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING

This product is intended for installation inside a suitable luminaire by a competent person.

One or more LED modules may be connected, provided their combined forward voltage during emergency operation is between 10V and 54V.

The associated normal LED driver must also comply with Tridonic’s compatibility limits. These include:

Compatibility should be confirmed with the relevant LED module, normal LED driver and emergency battery before installation.

Allow the battery to complete its specified initial charge before performing a full rated-duration test.

MANUAL TESTING

The 89800576 is a manual-test emergency driver.

A compatible test switch can be connected to initiate a functional check. Pressing the test switch for at least three seconds simulates a mains failure and allows the emergency operation of the luminaire to be checked.

Periodic functional and full-duration tests must be organised and recorded in accordance with the applicable emergency-lighting regulations.

This model does not provide DALI communication or automatic scheduled testing.

IMPORTANT OPERATING-MODE INFORMATION

Tridonic classifies this product as non-maintained emergency control gear.

This does not necessarily mean that the luminaire’s LED remains unlit during normal operation. The same LED module can be operated normally by a separate mains LED driver and transferred to the emergency driver when the mains supply fails.

The maintained or switched-maintained behaviour of the overall luminaire therefore depends on the normal LED driver and luminaire wiring arrangement.

IMPORTANT DURATION-LINK INFORMATION

The duration setting must be selected before connecting the battery and mains supply.

If the link is changed after initial commissioning, disconnect both the mains and battery supplies for at least ten seconds before reconnecting them. Failure to reset the unit correctly may produce an incorrect battery-fault indication.

IMPORTANT BATTERY COMPATIBILITY INFORMATION

Use only a compatible Tridonic-approved NiMH or LiFePO4 emergency battery specified for the 89800576 and the required emergency duration.

Typical configurations include:

• NiMH: Three-cell battery system


• LiFePO4 one-hour operation: Approximately 3.0Ah compatible battery


• LiFePO4 three-hour operation: Approximately 6.0Ah compatible battery

The exact battery part number and physical configuration must be selected from the current Tridonic compatibility table. Battery capacity, cell construction and connector type must not be chosen solely from the required operating duration.

The driver automatically detects whether an approved NiMH or LiFePO4 battery has been connected.

BATTERY SAFETY

• Use only the battery technology and configuration approved by Tridonic.


• Do not connect an incompatible battery voltage, chemistry or connector arrangement.


• Isolate both the mains and battery supplies before installation or maintenance.


• Do not short-circuit, crush, puncture, open or expose the battery to excessive heat.


• Observe the battery manufacturer’s permitted operating and storage temperatures.


• Replace damaged, swollen, leaking or overheated batteries immediately.


• Dispose of used batteries through an approved battery-recycling facility.


• A full emergency-duration test should be completed after battery replacement.
