The Tridonic EM converterLED PRO 205 NiCd/NiMH 250V is a self-testing emergency LED conversion unit designed for installation inside compatible luminaires.

It provides a constant 4.5 W emergency output and supports LED modules with a combined forward voltage between 48 and 250 V. Emergency duration can be configured for one, two or three hours using the duration-selection link.

The integrated DALI interface enables central monitoring, configuration and retrieval of emergency-lighting information. The unit automatically carries out a five-second function test every week and a full-duration test annually in accordance with its programmed emergency duration.

Three-pole switching technology provides two-pole LED-module changeover together with delayed power switching for the associated normal LED driver. The same LED module can therefore be illuminated through a separate mains LED driver during normal operation and powered by the emergency converter following a mains failure.

The emergency control gear itself is specified by Tridonic for non-maintained operation. Where the same LED module operates under normal mains conditions, that normal illumination is provided by the separate LED driver rather than by the emergency converter.

The 205 version requires a compatible five-cell, 6.0 V Tridonic NiCd or NiMH battery. The required battery capacity and format depend on the selected emergency duration and must be confirmed using Tridonic’s current compatibility table.

Battery, bi-colour indicator LED, test switch, wiring, strain-relief enclosure and other accessories should only be considered included where specifically stated by the seller.

INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING

Installation must be completed by a suitably qualified person in accordance with the Tridonic wiring diagram and applicable emergency-lighting regulations.

The required duration must be selected before connecting the battery and mains supply:

• Link in position A: Three hours


• No duration link: Two hours


• Link in position B: One hour

The unit is supplied with the link in the three-hour position.

Following installation:

• Connect only an approved five-cell Tridonic NiCd or NiMH battery


• Connect the bi-colour status-indicator LED


• Configure the required emergency duration


• Allow the battery to complete its initial charge


• Perform a functional test


• Complete and record a full-duration test


• Address and commission the DALI interface where it is being used

The battery, LED output, test-switch and indicator connections must be insulated for the applicable non-SELV voltage within the luminaire.

AUTOMATIC TESTING

The PRO version incorporates automatic emergency-lighting testing:

• Duration test: Once per year for the selected one-, two- or three-hour duration


• Status indication: Green indicates normal operation; red indicates a detected fault


• DALI reporting: Test results and operational information can be communicated to a compatible DALI emergency-lighting system

The unit also records operating information relating to the mains supply, battery, LED output and emergency operation. This BlackBox information can be read using compatible Tridonic software.

IMPORTANT OPERATING-MODE INFORMATION

Tridonic describes this emergency control gear as non-maintained.

However, it can be installed alongside a standard LED driver so that the same LED module operates:

• Normally from the separate LED driver while mains power is available


• At reduced emergency output from the EM converterLED following a mains failure

Therefore, a completed luminaire may provide maintained normal illumination, but the 89800661 emergency converter itself remains non-maintained emergency control gear.
